This is such a fun recipe and I everyone who tries these cookies, absolutely loves them!

TILE COOKIES RECIPE

It makes 40 cookies (20 for your event, 20 to give away to friends, neighbors).

20 Tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature

3 cups of all purpose flour

1 cup of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of salt

1  1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract ( you can do with almond extract if you prefer).

In a bowl mix sugar and butter then add vanilla extract, salt and flour last.

After it's all mixed in, pout it on top of parchment paper and squeeze both sides to make a log and put inside the refridgerator for about 1 hour.

Place parchment paper on the counter with two yardsticks and slice dough to fit in between the yardsticks and rool it over to make it flat 1/2 inch the hight of the yardstick. This way all your cookies have the same height.

Turn the oven to 350 degrees F.

If you don't have cookie cutters ( I needed a specific size), then cut a piece of cardstock and use as a size to guide you. Then slice dough and cut the cookies moving them one a the time to the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and 1"apart from each cookie. 

Use cornstartch so the dough does not stick while you are rolling it out.

Bake them for about 15 minutes and about halfway of the baking turn the baking sheets around for uniform baking.

(Sometimes I use only 3/4 cup of powdered sugar instead of 1 cup, but in that case I ice the entire cookie instead of just the trim and a bit in the middle for the cookie sheet to adhere.)

Make the icing while the cookies cool.

QUICK SUGAR ICING RECIPE 

You are going to love this quick glaze, it''s so delicious and quick to make. This recipe is best if you eat the cookies in about 3 days. However if you want to freeze iced cookies, then I recommend you use royal icing instead.

2 cups of powdered sugar (reserve 1/4 cup for later)

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon of salt

3 tablespoons of milk (reserve one tablespoon of milk)

Mix all ingredients except 1 tablespoon of milk, then put it inside a snack ziplock back and cut a little corner to pipe the icing.

Go on the outside of the cookies icing the edge only making a square on the cool cookies then after all of them are done, (you should have about 1/4 of the icing left), add the 3rd tablespoon of reserved milk and the 1/4 up of powered sugar and mix to make the icing thinner and pipe it inside the square of each cookie. When it's almost dry then put the sugar sheet designs on top so they stay in place. 

For the sugar sheets, you can print any design even a picture on these sugar sheets. I had mine done at Wegman's in their catering department. They are $10 each sheet and you can make 20  ~  2"x2" cookies with each sheet if you are making square cookies like i did. I did a total of 40 party cookies.

Let them dry completely and place in an airtight container until you are read to enjoy them. 

 

Refrigerate cookie dough for one hour before handling.

I used 2 yardsticks to make sure the dough on each cookie was the same 1/4" height

 

If you don't have a cookie cutter use 2 pieces 2"x2" of card stock to measure your cookie and with a knife slide the dough.

 

Bake the cookies 1" apart. 
Bake the cookies until the edges are golden brown.
Cut your sugar cookie the size of your cookies.
 I cut down on the sugar, so i just put a a little in the middle,  it's up to you.


 

I designed the paper placemat and used 2 doilies so the design of the cookie could stand out.
